Economic Stimulus Payments on the Way!

The IRS has begun to transfer economic stimulus payments to millions of Americans, some of whom will see payments in their financial institution accounts as early as April 28, 2008. "People who chose direct deposit will receive their economic stimulus payments the quickest," IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman said.

Payments will be issued according to the last two-digits of the main filer's Social Security number. For joint filers, the payments will go out based on the person listed first on the return. Payments will be made by either direct deposit or paper check, consistent with how people filed their 2007 tax return.

Please note - If you have already filed your 2007 tax return and you elected to have your refund direct deposited into your account here at MECU. If you provided an invalid account number on your original tax return, this may have caused your tax return to reject and the money was sent back to IRS. If this was the case, IRS will attempt to direct deposit your economic stimulus payment using the same account number. Any direct deposits that are received without a valid account number will automatically be sent back to IRS.
